Summer Strangers
Two summer flicks to sweat to
Well C&C’ers, it’s been a minute. Allow me to start by apologizing for my brief absence. Life, work, love, and laziness often get in the way of the important things — like sharing weird lil flicks with all of you. Maybe you didn’t even notice. All the better!
I’ve been working on a few projects that have taken up a good chunk of time. One is my short, Terry’s Calendar, starring the hilarious Nate Pringle, and which will be premiering in Toronto at Bleeding Edge Fest next week on August 23. If you’re in Toronto, you should check it out. It’s playing before Tucker Bennett’s new feature In the Glow of Darkness, along with Kat Toledo’s short Duvet. You can get tickets here!
While you’re you at it, you should also subscribe to Bleeding Edge’s substack. There’s a lot great stuff!
Here’s a little teaser to Terry’s Calendar:
While summer is still lingering around, here are some seasonal flicks to check out:
The Stranger (1967) by Luchino Visconti and Summer Girl (1983) by Robert Michael Lewis, two sweet summer movies to make you sweat.
The Stranger
If you’ve read Albert Camus’ book, you already know the drill. But did you ever imagine Meursault as Marcello Mastroianni? Or Anna Karina as Marie? Well, no need to imagine ‘cause Visconti’s done it for you with his take on Camus’ classic. Seaside existential despair, a senseless murder, and Marcello in a funny one piece bathing suit — you can’t go wrong!
*Note: A high quality version of this is on the Plex*
Summer Girl
If you’re like me and Gary from The Last American Virgin, and simply can’t help but swoon over 80s heart throb Diane Franklin, then you’d be wise to check her out in this TV movie from 1983. Franklin plays one bad nanny who joins an unsuspecting family at their beach house over the summer. She of course seduces helpless ol’ Dad, driving a deadly wedge between the husband and wife. You can watch it below, 80s commercials and all!
With that, hope you all have a sweet time at the beach! See ya around!
